In Praise of STRONG WOMEN, A Psychiatrist’s Memoir is a book that joyously celebrates the strong women that have influenced and benefited the author, David Kirkpatrick, during his life.

With insight from his practice, especially as a couple’s counselor, David offers well-earned advice to others living with, loving and losing strong women. He reflects on the experiences of his grandmother, mother and early teachers; of his third-grade sweetheart; of his first wife, Betsy, and their daughter, Mindy; of school friends and professional colleagues; of elderly aunts; and finally of Clair, his wife since 1997 and a psychologist herself. Woven between his memories and anecdotes is a discerning narrative about strong women in general and how to appreciate, enjoy and benefit from their special gifts.

David Kirkpatrick will be appearing at:

    • The Arts Center in Sechelt on Saturday, January 23rd at 7:30 p.m.
    • Bloomsbury Books in Ashland on Thursday, January 28th at 7 p.m.
    • Grass Roots Books +Music in Corvalis on February 1st at 7 p.m.
    • Teaparty Books in Salem on Thursday, February 2nd at 6:30 p.m.

This book tour follows a CBC radio interview and a well attended book launch for In Praise of Strong Women.

GIPL Author, Beth Rowles Scott has been receiving a lot of attention because of her book, “Pinch Me, A Long Walk from the Prairies”. The Afro News has written a glowing review that can be read here. A quote from the article is re-printed below.

Beth’s desire “to give hope, to give a chance to others” came from her own early life lessons. This new project which began on a kitchen table in 1993, called on Beth to apply all her best experiences of administration. Her belief in how important it is to encourage leadership, enhance education and strengthen community now led her from being a retired academic to a latter day activist in a far and foreign land. Looking forward to Kenya, Beth and George’s vision became the working motto for ACCES – “Kenyans Helping Kenyans”. – quote from the Afro News, Deidré Heim.

Foreword Magazine mentioned the book, calling it a “charming memoir”and BC Bookworld listed it under their Indie Books category.

The book follows Beth’s life from her childhood in Saskatchewan to her dedication to creating schools in Kenya in her senior years.

More information about the on-going work of creating and supporting schools in Kenya can be found by visiting the ACCESKENYA website or by e-mailing info@acceskenya.org. Net proceeds form the sale of the book are donated to ACES.
