A Tale of Two Survivors
Steve Floris

Forced to work in a Hungarian slave labour battalion under the command of Hitler’s Third Reich, Steve Floris managed to survive thanks to his skills as a cook and the decency of his commanding officer.
After escaping and returning to Budapest, he married his sweetheart, who had also survived the Holocaust. Together they escaped Soviet occupied Hungary and went to Austria. They worked in UN refugee camps, then made their way to Salzburg and were accepted for immigration to Canada.
The Florises settled in Vancouver where they ran the Ferguson Point Tea House in Stanley Park for many years.
